The FSC Group's Green Policy

green-san-franciscoThe FSC Group is based in San Francisco and we have adopted the LEED silver-rated office space guidelines in addition to our already established environmentally-friendly standards. This includes the following.

  • As an energy-efficiency consulting firm, The FSC Group has a history of mentoring our clients to minimize their carbon footprints, including studies on energy efficiency, demand response and electric vehicles. The work that we do on a daily basis promotes environmentally-friendly practices to not only our clients, but to their customers, who happens to be the public at large;
  • All FSC employees take advantage of pre-tax commuter benefits and 100% of our employees use public transit for their daily commute;
  • The FSC Group is very conscientious about managing our carbon footprint:

    • We hold weekly, in-person employee meetings to help reduce paper usage
    • All of our used equipment, such as printers and computers, are always donated to responsible charity groups
    • We only use energy star equipment, including our refrigerators
  • In an effort to reduce environmental impacts, The FSC Group preserves paper and reduces waste by producing presentations in Word or PowerPoint and presenting them electronically. When presentations and reports are printed, we then:
    • Our default printer configuration is set for double-sided printing
    • Use two slides per page
    • Decrease font size to 10 point to reduce page count
    • Use recycled paper that is not packaged in individual reams but instead are unwrapped and boxed in recycled boxes to minimize waste
  • To reduce travel expenses, many meetings take place electronically through WebEx;
  • leed certificationThe FSC Group operates out of a LEED silver-rated building and we follow all of those guideline requirements, including but not limited to, the items listed above and below:
    • Use of sun shades and blinds to help minimize heating and cooling needs
    • On weekends, we can open office sliding doors to facilitate air circulation and eliminate the need for heating and cooling (the air conditioning is not run)
    • Recycle and reuse paper, glass, plastic and aluminum
    • Compost all organics including food, soiled paper products and compostable food containers
    • In the breakroom, we use permanent ware, such as mugs, dishes, utensils, etc.
    • Thermostats are set to 76* for cooling, 68* for heating, and we use timing devices to turn systems down after hours
    • We work with the janitorial service to use safe cleaning alternatives as compared to potentially harmful products
    • For the walls, we use low- or no-VOC paint products
    • There are motion detectors for lighting
    • We shut down the computers each night
