Highlights From the 2009 Evaluation of SDG&E’s Summer Saver Program

Josh Schellenberg gave this presentation at the Western Load Research Association Conference in Reno, NV. The conference took place September 27-29, 2010.

SDG&E's air conditioner cycling program is unique in that it allows customers to choose between different cycling intensity levels and availability on weekends for different incentive levels. It is also one of a limited number of AC load control evaluations to assess side-by-side impacts based on household and end-use metered data. The presentation will:

  • Provide an overview of the SummerSaver Program and evaluation
  • Provide a side-by-side comparison of residential program impacts based on whole building and AC end-use data
  • Discuss issues of self-selection into less and more intensive cycling
  • Present ways to improve targeting to identify customer that use AC during peak system hours
